Attic Insulation Contractor in Round Rock, TX

Attic Insulation Contractor in Round Rock, TX

25+ years in the trade. Same crew from estimate to final walk.

Round Rock is the oldest large suburb in the north metro, and that is the whole story. Nearly half the houses here went up before 2000, and about one in four went up before 1990. Attic insulation Round Rock homeowners are living under is frequently the original install, thirty years settled. Free on-site estimate. Real numbers. No upselling.

Round Rock Has Never Required R-49

Most Central Texas cities went to R-49 in the attic when they adopted the 2021 energy code. Round Rock did not. The city stayed on the 2015 codes from October 2016, skipped the 2018 and 2021 cycles entirely, and went straight to the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code, effective January 1, 2026. Both of those editions put the ceiling requirement at R-38.

Built Before the Code

A 1985 Chisholm Valley house was built to no energy standard at all, because Texas did not have one until September 2001. Whatever depth the builder chose is what is up there, minus forty years of settling. About 12,500 Round Rock homes predate 1990.

Big Single-Story Attics

Round Rock is on the 2024 energy code per Round Rock Building Inspection, and that code puts the ceiling at R-38. A lot of the older stock here is single-story ranch on a quarter-acre lot, which means a large ceiling area relative to the house. More attic floor is more heat load, and it is why per-square-foot pricing matters more here than on a two-story house of the same size.

Ductwork in the Attic

Standard construction here and the worst place for it. Your ducts spend July sitting in 115-degree-plus air, losing cooling capacity through the duct wall before the air reaches a register. It is why air sealing and radiant barrier do more in a Round Rock house than the national averages suggest. We air seal on every attic job at no separate charge.

Find Your Round Rock Year, Find Your Number

Roughly 22,900 Round Rock homes, about 45 percent of the city, were finished before 2000 under no energy code whatsoever. That is more houses than most Austin suburbs contain in total.

If your house was finishedWhat the code allowed in the atticRoughly what that is in inches
Before 2001Nothing. Texas had no statewide residential energy code.Whatever the builder chose
2001–2011R-19 to R-30, depending on window area6 to 11 inches, settled to less by now
2012–2016R-309 to 11 inches
2016 to todayR-3812 to 14 inches

One local note. If your address is inside the Round Rock city limits, the city inspects new construction to the 2024 code. If you are in unincorporated Williamson County, the county has adopted only a fire code, and its own text says it is not intended to be a building code and does not cover single-family homes. Two houses a mile apart can have been held to very different standards, and neither owner would have any way of knowing. We measure what is actually up there rather than guessing from the year.

Round Rock went up in four waves.

Each wave got built to the code in force that year, and the first two waves predate any code at all. Find the group your neighborhood is in and you know roughly what is sitting over your ceiling before we ever open the hatch.

Built before 1980

Old Town Round Rock along the Main Street spine, where the stock runs from 1880s limestone cottages through 1920s Craftsman bungalows to 1950s and 60s ranch. Egger Acres from the mid-1970s on quarter- to third-acre lots. Chisholm Valley, one of the city’s largest neighborhoods, built from 1973 onward and mostly single-story ranch. Round Rock West from the late 1970s. About 5,400 homes, none built to any energy standard.

Built in the 1980s and 1990s

Roughly 17,500 homes and the largest single opportunity in the corridor. Round Rock roughly quadrupled in the 1970s and doubled again in the 1990s, and the housing that boom produced is now 25 to 45 years old. Round Rock Ranch and Chandler Creek came in at the end of that stretch. Still no statewide energy code for any of it.

Built in the 2000s and newer

Forest Creek, Sonoma, Behrens Ranch, Teravista, Turtle Creek Village and Lake Forest came in through the 2000s under the 2001-era code, which allowed as little as R-19 depending on window area. Paloma Lake, Vizcaya and Avery Centre followed in the 2010s at R-30 and then R-38. The newest of them are built to what the city requires today.

If your subdivision is not on this list, call and we will tell you what we expect to find before we come out. We have been in enough Round Rock attics to know what most of them look like from the year on the deed.

What attic insulation Round Rock homeowners pay

Same rate card as every other job we run. Blown-in insulation Round Rock jobs are priced exactly the same as Austin, and there is no travel surcharge for coming up I-35.
Job minimums: $1,400 for fiberglass attic work, $2,750 for wall additions. Prices current as of [MONTH YEAR]. All pricing subject to change based on final on-site assessment.

The reason most contractors will not put numbers on a page is that depth, access, prep work, and existing conditions all affect the final estimate. A 1,800 sq ft Forest Creek attic with a clean deck is one number. The same attic with rodent contamination and compressed 1980s fiberglass is a different number.

Steep roof pitch, low clearance, heavy obstruction, or disposal beyond the normal load can move a job above these figures. We tell you that on the estimate rather than on the invoice.
R-value disclosure, required by the FTC Home Insulation Rule (16 CFR Part 460). Background on R-values from the US Department of Energy. Our blown-in attic product is loose-fill fiberglass. Reaching R-40 takes roughly 15 to 16 inches of settled thickness and reaching R-49 takes roughly 19 to 20 inches, at the manufacturer’s rated coverage. R-40 guaranteed means we install to the manufacturer’s rated bag count and coverage for R-40 and document the coverage area, thickness and R-value on your invoice. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. Ask your seller for the fact sheet on R-values. Savings vary. Find out why in the seller’s fact sheet on R-values. Higher R-values mean greater insulating power.

The Full Version

Morning of the job. The crew arrives in the H&O truck with the blowing rig. The same lead installer who walked your Round Rock attic at the estimate is the one running the install. We protect floors and any belongings near the attic access.
Prep. If old insulation is coming out, that happens first. Vacuum trucks, contained removal, no fiberglass dust through your house. If we are topping off clean existing insulation, we inspect for rodent activity, leaks, or compressed areas before adding depth. We check the soffit line and the eave coverage while we are up there.
Air sealing. Before insulation goes down, we seal the gaps where conditioned air leaks into the attic. Top plates, wire penetrations, plumbing chases, recessed light cans. This is the step most contractors skip or charge extra for. We do it on every job at no upcharge. It matters more in Round Rock than most places because the ductwork is almost always up there with it.
The blow. One installer runs the hose in the attic, the other feeds the machine on the truck. We blow to the spec’d depth, marked with depth gauges so you can verify coverage yourself. The installer in the attic walks every corner, edge, and soffit.
Final walk. Your crew lead walks the finished job with you before they leave. We show you the depth gauges, the coverage at the eaves, and the air-sealing work. If anything is not right, we fix it before we go.
Total time on a typical Round Rock job: 4 to 6 hours for a top-off, one full day for most reinstalls, two days for big jobs with full removal and sanitization. We tell you which bucket your job falls in at the on-site estimate, so you can plan your day before we ever show up.

What Changes After Installation

  • Most of the older stock here is one story, which means the whole house sits under the attic instead of half of it. When the depth is right, the change is not confined to one room.
  • The back bedroom stops being the back bedroom. In a ranch, the rooms farthest from the air handler are the ones that never quite catch up in August, and evening out the ceiling above them does more than closing a vent ever will.
  • The system stops running as long. Shorter cycles in July, and a noticeable difference in how often it kicks on in the evening after the roof has been in the sun all day.
  • Drafts at outlets, can lights, and ceiling fixtures stop. In a house built before 2001 there was no air sealing to begin with, so this is usually the part homeowners notice first.
  • Winter gets easier too. Most people do not expect that until the first January cold front comes through.
  • Less dust. A sealed attic pushes less attic air down into the house.
